NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The U.S. Forest Service is looking for 18 to 25-year-olds to join the Forest Stewards Youth Corps. The program lasts 13 weeks and provides paid training for would-be wildland firefighters.

The youth corps program gives participants on-the-ground training in prescribed burns, firefighting, and natural resource management. The New Mexico program is based at Mountainair, the Pueblo of Jemez, and Española, the U.S. Forest Service says.

The 2024 fall class is taking applicants now. To apply, email apearson@forestguild.org or go to this link for more information. The program pays $17 to $19 per hour, depending on position.
