CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is considering putting seven parcels up for lease to oil and gas extraction. The parcels total 1,317 acres, BLM says.

The parcels are located in Eddy and Lea Counties. BLM plans on offering them for lease in 2025 but is seeking public input first.

The public comment period will be open until June 5, 2024. Additional information as well as a pubic comment portal can be found at this link. Parcels include land near Brantley Lake State Park, sites southeast of Artesia, and a site south of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
