COLORADO (KRQE) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking help in mitigating damage conflicts from elk near two wildlife refuges near Alamosa.
The department is offering antlerless elk hunts on the Baca and Monte Vista National Wildlife refuges. They said each refuge will have one long-period hunt starting at the end of rifle season through the end of February.
Regular hunting licenses will not be valid for the hunts, and anyone who successfully applies for them will need to obtain an access permit. Hunters will only be able to obtain a permit for one of the refuges.
The department says each hunt will be for five hunters at any one time. the application period ends Friday evening. Click here for the application.
